If you wish to order online, click here NOISE REDUCTION OF INTERIOR WALLSFor residential sound control, there are more than a half-dozen ways to increase the noise reduction of interior walls. Click on highlighted items for more information on them.
Sound control is most efficient when two or more methods are used together. There are many possible combinations of these six techniques. For Sound Control Insulation we recommend our Sound Barrier MLV, which takes the place of lead in construction. It helps reduce airborne noise. Double drywall has an STC of approximately 35, add the Sound Barrier (STC 26) and you have an STC of over 50, which will greatly reduce airborne noise. To tackle impact or structure borne noise, use resilient channels or isolation clips in conjunction with the Sound Barrier. Remember that STC values are based on the number of decibels of transmitted sound reduced by the wall. Just as a 50 dB sound is four times louder than a 30 dB sound, a 50 STC wall is four times quieter than a 30 STC wall. Three sound control combinations are recommended: 1) Studs, drywall, caulking, sound control insulation; 2) Studs, drywall, caulking, resilient channels, sound control insulation; and 3) Staggered studs, drywall, caulking, sound control insulation. |
