Mass Loaded Vinyl

Extreme Sound Barrier is also known as Mass Loaded Vinyl (MLV)

This is a flexible barrier vinyl material designed to block sound from transmitting through the wall it is attached to. Made in a liquid state, with sand added to gain density, this heavy mass-loaded product weighs 1 pound per square foot.  Ideal for protecting room B from room A's noise.

TIPS

The weight of the material is what makes the product work for you. Cut the pieces into smaller, more manageable sizes as you install. For maximum effect, treat both sides of a common wall with the product. Double up on the sheetrock, but use two different types of thickness of the drywall and layer this material in between! Also note that standard insulation stuffed between joists in a wall does little to block sound transmission. It is not dense enough. Also remember that structural noise transmission through the studs is common.

APPLICATIONS

Sound Barrier can be best be described as a "loaded", heavy, (1 Lb per Sq. Ft!), vinyl underlay.  For quieting floors, this heavy layer can be placed under the carpet and padding for optimum impact and noise control.

SOUND BARRIER MLV is strong, wear resistant material that can be laid directly under hardwood floors, linoleum, tile, and carpets.  The mass loaded vinyl gives the floor more density and acts as a barrier to airborne noise.  It is easily cleansed with water and does not stick or disintegrate.  It is ideal for industrial applications also.

We also have the perfect answer for floating floors.  We have a high quality Volara 1" foam that resembles neoprene and will float your studio floor effortlessly.  Other options include using cork and/or vibration pads, which we also offer for sale.

Proper installation of resilient channeling, Sound Barrier Vinyl, 2nd layer gypsum and acoustical caulk will result in an STC of over 53  (Loud shouting is not heard).
