Goal: There are specific goals that are typically targeted towards musicians. First, to protect others from the noise. Second, to enhance the quality of the sound being produced.
Solution: We can provide immediate advice on what structurally can be done to the surrounding walls to help contain the sound to within the room. We can also suggest how to eliminate noise and vibration within the room that will be heard on a recording if not eliminated. We can also recommend products to be applied to the exposed finished walls that can help control reverberation and produce a quality sound.
Fortunately we have an accomplished professional musician/singer/songwriter on our staff who is familiar with the complexities facing musicians when trying to prepare for recording, when practicing, and when performing. He is available to answer your questions.
Musicians are concerned with both blocking sound and creating an effective acoustic environment. Although we are not acoustic engineers, we are confident that our technician can give you some friendly and SOUND advice. Please call us at 858-483-5500 and ask for technical support.
Extreme Soundproofing Standard Sound Barrier is a heavy, limp mass material typically sold in 48" x25' rolls. Each roll weighs about 105 pounds. Despite its mass, the product is only .10" thick, and is ideal for treatment inside a wall cavity, behind a layer of sheet rock, or above a ceiling tile system. It also works very well as a carpet or floor underlay. The material serves to help deaden the transmission of airborne noise..
Remember to caulk the seams when installing this product. Wherever water would leak out, so will sound. Use a resilient tub and tile cault to seam the pieces together. Overlapping seams also works.
It may be necessary to reduce structural noise as well. This is noise that travels through the walls from one room to another, and is not easily reduced. In many buildings, structural noise is a bigger problem than airborne noise. Some examples of structural noise are loud plumbing, air conditioning or furnace vents or ducts, footsteps, dropped objects, bass thumps, heavy vibrating appliances, and so forth.
Please ask Extreme Soundproofing technical support about construction methods designed to reduce structural noise. We'll also tell you how to install the Sound Barrier into an existing room.
